Resources

There are four components to the 'resources' section of this website:

1. Resources for refugees and sponsors - this page features a number of links to helpful documents and websites, as well as links to other organizations, groups, and services that provide resources to refugees and/or their sponsors. There are also many listed resources that are provided in Arabic and many other languages. Please check out the Events page to find out more about the regular Private Sponsors of Nova Scotia Roundtable Meetings.

2. Other sponsorship efforts in Nova Scotia (and beyond) - Refugees Belong is only one of many groups in Nova Scotia that are working on sponsoring refugee families. Find out more about who else is involved in this growing refugee sponsorship movement that is rapidly spreading across the country! If you are a member of a sponsorship group in Nova Scotia, please request to 'join' the NS Refugee Sponsorship Network group on Facebook so that we can all share ideas and resources.

3. Our sponsorship process - describes our process in ten steps and tracks our progress. Find out where we are at with sponsoring a refugee family!

4. Learn about the refugee crisis -  a quick overview of where the refugee crisis is at currently. This page also links to helpful educational resources for all ages. Please 'like' our Facebook page, Refugees Belong, to stay updated on current local and international refugee-related news.

Hany had wanted to go to university to study to be a communications engineer, but the war prevented any hope of further education. Competent in English, Hany taught himself the language from songs and movies and the internet. He is a keen poet and at recitation in his shelter members of the audience were visibly moved by his words. "Poetry is a part of me," says Hany, "I do it to complete my emotions." With all this potential and passion for the world Hany spends his days in the small shelter with his phone and occasional internet connection as his only means of escape. The monotony burdens him deeply and it is with a heavy sadness that he adds, "I'm wasting a lot of time here, I cannot achieve my dreams."
