Learn about the refugee crisis

The resources provided here offer a great informative overview to the current refugee crisis. You can also check out our Facebook page where we daily post new information on the refugee crisis and Canada's response. 

Do you have children or are you involved with educating children? We are assembling a list of resources to help you teach children about why it is important to assist refugees and how we can make them feel welcome in Canada. Amnesty International also features a great list of resources for all ages. 

The war in Syria, which started in March 2011, is largely to blame for the recent dramatic increase in the world's refugee population. The Syrian conflict is very complex. There are many contributing historical factors and there are many different key players in this story.  Check out this cartoon (or click through on the picture to the right) which illustrates how climate change has contributed to the escalation of the four year conflict. 

There are so many groups and different motivations that are implicated in Syria's war. Watch the 5-minute video below to find out who is involved in the fighting and what their reasons are for participating. The video was published October 14th, 2015. The situation continues to become more complex. ​
